Build. Improve. Love Your Home.

Welcome to The Project Homestead.

If you’ve ever stood in the middle of a hardware store, staring at 50 different shades of white paint, feeling completely overwhelmed… you are in the right place.

If you have a “fixer-upper” that needs love, but you’re terrified of using a power saw… this blog is for you.

If you want a high-end home without paying a contractor $100 an hour for everything… we need to talk.

Meet Claire

Hi, I’m Claire Mason, the founder and lead editor of The Project Homestead.

Fifteen years ago, my husband and I bought our first house. It was a 1970s split-level with “good bones,” questionable shag carpet, and kitchen cabinets that smelled like old oil.

We had a big mortgage and a tiny renovation budget. Hiring pros for everything wasn’t an option. So, I bought a drill, watched a lot of videos, and decided to figure it out.

I made a lot of mistakes. I’ve flooded a bathroom (twice). I’ve built a deck that wasn’t quite square. I’ve bought tools I didn’t need and ruined expensive lumber.

But I also learned. I learned how to lay tile that lasts for decades. I learned the difference between a $200 saw and a $600 saw. I learned that with patience and the right plan, regular people can build extraordinary things.

I created The Project Homestead to be the resource I wish I’d had back then.

What We Believe

The internet is full of “5-Minute Craft” videos that are fake, or contractor sites that are too technical. I wanted to build something in the middle.

Here is my promise to you:

  • Real Budgets: I will always tell you what things actually cost (including the boring stuff like permits and screws).

  • No Fluff: I respect your time. We get straight to the “how-to.”

  • Safety First: DIY is fun, but power tools are serious. I prioritize safety in every guide.

  • Quality Over Speed: We don’t do “landlord specials.” We teach you how to do it right, so you only have to do it once.

Where Should You Start?

Let’s Build Something Together

Renovating a home is a marathon, not a sprint. Whether you are here to hang a shelf or finish a basement, I’m honored to be a small part of your journey.

Grab your safety glasses. Let’s get to work.
